Growing up, I spent nearly every summer with my family in South Padre Island, TX. We would spend our days walking along the beach and hunting for sand dollars, and our evenings enjoying delicious seafood and each other’s company. It was the highlight of our year—equal parts relaxation and adventure. (Bungee jumping and parasailing, anyone?) It was a time to connect, unwind, and make memories.
Our family also took several long road trips, visiting places like Carlsbad Caverns National Park, the Grand Canyon, the Las Vegas Strip, and Hollywood. I was fortunate to travel to Oahu, Hawaii, where I hiked to the top of Diamond Head volcano and swam with vibrant fish in Hanauma Bay. Of course, I also got stung by a Portuguese man o' war, which left me temporarily paralyzed from the waist down for about an hour—before I ran straight back into the ocean, of course!
Growing up in Houston, I had access to a rich variety of cultural experiences—from museums and art galleries to concerts, sports events, and a diverse mix of people. In college, I studied abroad in Seville, Spain, for six months. I lived with Carmen, my house mom who didn’t speak a word of English, which truly tested my adaptability and communication skills.
These travel experiences were transformative and shaped me in ways that have lasted throughout my life. They've influenced everything—from how I connect with others to the way I approach problems and design solutions. Through travel, I’ve learned to be resourceful, navigate uncertainty, and stay open to new perspectives. I’ve built lasting friendships, embraced challenges, and discovered that there is always more to learn. Whether local or international, the lessons from travel continue to shape the person I am—and the person I’m still becoming.
